Get Off My Turf! My Genderation

short fiction

Get Off My Turf! Is a short fiction (8 mins) brought to you by award-winning trans film-makers at My Genderation. It explores the relationship between a trans woman and her transphobic neighbour. The women share an unexpected moment of female solidarity, allowing the neighbour to re-evaluate her previous assumptions and beliefs. The film is made by an entirely trans cast and crew, making it unique, authentic and relevant to the experiences of transgender people in the UK and beyond.

Director and co-writer Fox Fisher says: “The film was surprisingly entertaining and even therapeutic to make, as the process highlighted some of the absurdity of anti-trans arguments and beliefs.”

Getting into character was very easy according to Persia West, who plays the transphobic neighbour. She remarked: “it’s because the arguments are always the same, and are built upon conservative and outdated views on sex and gender.”

Owl, who stars in the short film, says: “Get Off My Turf! is meant to be a parody on the ongoing public debate about trans women and trans feminine people, so the film is fairly light-hearted and fun despite the serious subject matter.”
